Panhandle jobs arrive with wind power projects

Two major electric transmission projects to ship renewable energy from the Panhandle to other states could almost double Oklahoma's wind capacity in the next five years and expand economic development in the far western corner of the state.

Total investments in the Wind Catcher project and the Plains and Eastern Clean Line are expected to hit $7 billion, with thousands of construction jobs coming to the Panhandle and large increases in the tax base continuing for decades.

Clean Line Energy's $2.5 billion Plains and Eastern Clean Line has been in development since 2009 and could start construction in early 2018.
